Interior Design With Columns

In the previous post, we talked about using columns to create an elegant, classic look. Here are more tips from this article by John Valentine in Materials Marketing.

(1) Work with your designer, architect and structural engineer before adding columns to a home, whether you’re in the design or remodeling phase. Columns often will be load-bearing and they add weight to the structure. It’s not easy to remove a column so you have to get it right the first time.

(2) Use columns creatively to create stunning visual effects. For instance, a long row of columns alongside a pool or open space will break up the space.

(3) Consider the material you will use in your columns. One approach involves using the same materials you use on your exterior walls so your home looks planned and coordinated.

Stylish square columns and pillars are  very decorative pieces that transform room design with timeless charm. These architectural elements can support as arch on your doorway or decorate the wall. Porch columns provide additional support to the roof and also add decorative accents to house exterior design.

While the original intent of columns were solely structural, designers and architects have found that using non-structural or faux columns to create a certain aesthetic in interiors is a great design element. Non-load bearing columns look beautiful in foyers and entryways and look beautiful in a colonnade on your outdoor porch.
